Hunter Water's proposed Tillegra Dam will be one of the biggest infrastructure projects built in the region this century.

The corporation says the dam is needed to drought proof the Hunter and beyond. But there's a backlash with a group of residents and Dungog Council calling for more proof the dam is needed. Hunter Water says the answers will be in its Environmental Assessment Report, that's due to be lodged with the NSW government in the next few weeks.

NBN News reporter Penny Evans takes a look behind the dam wall, at the people and places of the Williams Valley that will be changed forever if the dam goes ahead.
