A group of surfers trying to bring back the Kirra break, is now trying to reinvent the southern Gold Coast.

The Kirra Point Committee says the once tight-knit community has lost its appeal.

SHIFTING SANDS TO SAVE KIRRA

July 20, 2009

Work has begun to restore Kirra Point to its former glory, with thousands of tonnes of sand being shifted from the area.

It’ll be used to fill neighbouring stagnate lagoons, and restore the dangerously depleted shore at Palm Beach.

LONG TERM PLAN TO RESTORE KIRRA BEACH

Work to restore Kirra Beach is due to start in less than a fortnight, but experts say more needs to be done to get back the once-famous break.

The Kirra Point Committee is putting together a long-term plan that will protect all Gold Coast beaches.

KIRRA PROTESTERS PADDLE TO MAKE POINT

It was famous for being arguably the best surfing beach in the country.

But sand pumping at Kirra on the Gold Coast has reduced its reputation.

More than a thousand surfers have paddled out to protest the demise of their break.
