Footballers’ association CEO, Brendan Schwab, has criticised the sport’s governing body over its handling of the Newcastle Jets.
Football Federation Australia has agreed to give short-term financial assistance, but the PFA says it’s legally obliged to guarantee the club’s long-term survival.

Football Federation Australia has announced it will provide short-term financial assistance to the Newcastle Jets.
For now at least, the squad can focus on preparing for a trip to Adelaide this weekend.

There’s been some consolation for the ousted Knights, with Kurt Gidley selected in the Kangaroos Four Nations’ train-on squad, while Jarrod Mullen and Akulia Uate made the Prime Minister’s XIII.
The team enjoyed Mad Monday festivities today, but starting tomorrow, Rick Stone and co will pick up the pieces of a season that promised plenty, but ended in disappointment.

The boys in black seemed undaunted by the underdog tag, Nick Davidson scoring late in the first half.

Belmont’s Brendan Smith has taken out his third straight W.E Alexander at Waratah Golf Course.
Starting the day one shot off the lead, Smith held his nerve in the windy conditions to win the event by just one shot.

HAMILTON INTO NHRU GRAND FINAL AFTER BEATING GREENS

In Newcastle and Hunter rugby, Hamilton is through to the grand final after beating Merewether this afternoon with a field goal right on full time.
Both sides managed to cross the stripe in the first half, Merewether drawing first blood thanks to Blake Creighton.
Damien Wells responded for Hamilton diving over out wide.
The Greens will now face the winner of tomorrow’s minor semi between Wanderers and Maitland.
EAGLES CLAIM FIRST SPOT IN NBN STATE LEAGUE DECIDER

Edgeworth is the first team through to this year’s NBN state league grand final, after drawing nil all with Olympic at Hamilton this afternoon.
The home side had plenty of chances and was ultimately left to curse this miss from right in front.
Edgeworth had its opportunities to wrap up the points, but was equally nervous in front of goal.
Weston faces Valentine Phoenix tomorrow for the other grand final berth.

City lead at every break to claim its fourth flag in eight years.
