The family of a man shot dead by police at Lake Macquarie has criticised the findings of a coronial inquest.
While satisfied with the actions of police, the Deputy State Coroner recommended mandatory training for officers in dealing with the mentally ill, and called for doctors to better follow-up with patients needing regular medication.

New details have emerged about the killing of a Hunter man, whose body was found buried in the Watagan Mountains.
Police have revealed 33-year-old Steven Quire, from Rutherford, had been shot.
Detectives say he was last seen alive between the 19th and 20th of February, and is believed to have died on either the 20th or 21st of February.
Police have re-issued an appeal for anyone with information about Mr Quire’s death to come forward.

Leslie Mason, the brother of league star Willie Mason, has been convicted of drug possession and fined $1,000 plus court costs.
However, the 31 year old had a drug supply charge withdrawn and dismissed in Newcastle Local Court today.
The professional boxer pleaded guilty to possessing ecstasy.

A court has heard claims that a 17 year old charged with manslaughter over the death of a man at last year’s Maitland Show, only went there to get into fights.
