BATHS 2 BAR OCEAN SWIM
November 23, 2008
The Baths 2 Beach swim is open to everyone but given the terrible weather conditions, it took a special kind of person to brave the 1.5 kilometre journey this time around.
All up around 150 greeted the starter - Newcastle Knights forward Cory Paterson - before taking the plunge into a chilly Merewether beach.
It was a grandstand finish too with Joshua Hollard enjoying a sprint to the line on Bar Beach beating Jarrod Killey.
The event raised $10,000, which will be split between Cooks Hill, Merewether and Dixon Park surf clubs.

A PIECE OF CON’S MIND
September 26, 2008
Newcastle Jets owner Con Constantine is no stranger to making bold statements, whether it be about his own club or other organisations. It often sparks debate, at times angst - it can even polarise opinion but it’s certain to cause a reaction.
Of late he’s been in the middle of minor storm relating to the lease arrangement at EnergyAustralia Stadium where the Jets rent the ground from the Newcastle Knights.
Recent sniping encouraged the Knights to come forward with figures that refuted his belief the A-League club was copping a raw deal. It made interesting reading - in short, the Knights proved they actually paid 90% of the stadium upkeep and costs to the A-League club’s 10%. Despite this, the Jets remain unsatisfied.
In an interview with Jim Callinan, it was soon clear that Con was upset that he did not get the chance to tender to be the major lease holder of the stadium and that’s where it will begin.
However, it’s important to note some crucial elements before clicking on. Mr Constantine makes a number of statements regarding the financial position of the Knights and their future. These have all been refuted by the rugby league club.
The rugby league club, as a not for profit entity, remains open to scrutiny from any of its 8,000 plus members on matters regarding the club’s viability.
