Luckless Newcastle Jets mid-fielder Shaun Ontong has undergone surgery to repair a ruptured achilles, suffered in the clash with the Gold Coast.
He could miss up to 12 months of football, and it comes after he spent most of last season on the sideline as well.

Fire authorities have spent the day mopping up following yesterday’s blaze at Port Stephens, that destroyed 500 hectares of national park.
The cause of the bushfire is being investigated, but the Rural Fire Service says it appears to have been deliberately lit.
MAJOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT QUASHED

The Land and Environment Court has quashed plans for a controversial housing development at Catherine Hill Bay, and major subdivision at nearby Gwandalan.
The ruling overturns a move by former state Planning Minister, Frank Sartor, to approve construction of around 600 houses in the area.

Wests Lions have earned a home grand final after thrashing North Tamworth in Group 4’s major semi-final.
An erratic Bears outfit had four players sin binned throughout the match.
The side will now face Wee Waa this weekend.
