STARVING GIRL TRIAL NEARS END

The Supreme Court trial over the death of a seven-year-old girl near Newcastle in 2007, has been told the father was not responsible for looking after the child in the weeks leading up to her demise.

In his closing submissions, defence counsel, Mark Austin, said the man failed his child, but was not guilty of murder or manslaughter.
