CONVICT ON THE RUN

Police are searching for a 49-year-old prisoner who escaped from Glen Innes Correction Centre yesterday.

Stephen Jamieson was serving time for break and enter offences and is due for release in 2010.

He’s described as being of European appearance, 175 centimetres tall with a slim build.

He was last seen at 3.30 yesterday afternoon wearing prison greens.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

CENTRAL COAST OUT-SKATED BY EUROPEAN STARS

The Central Coast Rhinos are now one from three in the International Ice Hockey Cup, after going down to the European Stars.

It was the European side’s first win of the series and they managed to keep the Rhinos scoreless with their fast-paced display.

STUDENTS RALLY AT PORT MACQUARIE

Young people have hit the streets in Port Macquarie protesting against proposed changes to the youth allowance scheme.

A rally on the Town Green this afternoon heard that the Federal Government’s plan would disadvantage students in rural and regional areas.

Avoca has maintained its unbeaten record in the Central Coast Rugby Union competition with a 12 point win over Ourimbah.

Also in round six, Northlakes got the points over Woy Woy and Terrigal and Kariong outclassed their opponents.

CENTRAL COAST RUGBY LEAGUE - ROUND 9

The wet weather forced the postponement of all but two games in Central Coast rugby league.

At Mary McKillop Oval, Erina won a thriller against Kincumber, with the Eagles taking the lead in the dying minutes to finish two points in front.

In the other result, The Entrance kept up its dominance in the competition with victory over Toukley, in a game that had to be moved north because of the state of EDSACC sports ground.

Central Coast Rugby League officials are now discussing possible dates for a second catch-up round.
