Trainer Paul Perry has decided to gamble on more horses pulling out and won’t race Newport in the SAAB Quality at Flemington tomorrow.

The people of Port Stephens have taken their concerns over the ailing Myall River system to Parliament.
Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann has tabled a petition, with more than 3,000 signatures, urging the state government to dredge the river mouth, but he’s less than impressed with the response.
75 NEW JOBS IN VARLEY MILITARY CONTRACT

Tomago engineering firm Varley will hire another 75 workers after winning a contract with the Australian Army.
They’ll design and build modules for the new generation of overland military vehicles.
WEE WAA RALLIES FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Around 500 people will throughout tonight in Wee Waa, to raise money for cancer research.
The town’s first Relay for Life has attracted 42 teams.
It’s the fourth walking fundraiser for the North West Cancer Council this year,
with Armidale, Moree and Tamworth holding similar events to raise money for research, support programs and vital services.
Hunter and North West Cancer Council General Manager, Christine Roach, said
” It’s about people being involved. It’s about celebrating survivorship and paying homage to those people we’ve lost as well.”
The Wee Waa Sporting Complex is hosting the event, which is expected to finish at two o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
NEW ENGLAND WINES CLEAN UP

The newly-gazetted New England wine region is quickly making a name for itself.
A swag of vineyards cleaned up at the recent New England Wine Show, which attracted almost 200 entries from the local area, as well as the Hastings, Granite Belt, Northern Rivers and Northern Slopes.
New England wines were awarded eight gold medals, five silver and 21 bronze.

There are plenty of new faces on the Tamworth Crime Prevention Board, but it seems the the group has inherited old issues.
Alcohol-related crime remains a major issue for the central business area, and now the council is asking the community to help find a solution.

Tamworth’s Imperial Hotel has been added to the list of dangerous pubs.
It’s one of 48 venues being targeted by a state government out to curb alcohol-related bad behaviour.

Comments on the internet website Facebook about a possible riot at a Newcastle hotel this weekend have prompted police to shut the pub down.
The Lucky Country Hotel was to be packed with people tonight, but is instead boarded up.
