BELMONT AIRPORT SOLD

It’s been the subject of several protests, numerous courtroom battles and controversial development plans. But today the future of Belmont Airport was cemented, with the site selling to the Mirvac Corporation for $5.5 million.

It’s taken nine months of negotiations, but the contracts have finally been signed for the sale of Belmont Airport. Mirvac Corporations is now the new owner, but perhaps not for long.

Today the company wouldn’t reveal what it would do with the $5.5 million site, spokesperson Mary-Anne Graham saying, “We don’t have any immediate plans for the site, certainly we see it as playing a major role in our long term strategic plan for the Hunter.”

However the Central Coast Aero Club was a little more forthcoming with information, saying Mirvac purchased the site on the its behalf, so the club can relocate from Warnervale Airport to Belmont sometime in the next 12 months.

Mirvac will then apparently take over the Warnervale site, which is due to be rezoned for industrial use in September , and turned into a major employment hub

The plans all but confirmed by Lake Macquarie Mayor Greg Piper, who said, “My understanding is that this will facilitate the central coast aero club, being able to operate out of there.”

He says air services returning to Belmont is a win for the community.
