Rug Up For Mothers day

NBN Television - Wednesday, May 09, 2012

It has been very cold at night and first thing in the morning, but then due to a lot of sunshine we get some heating during the day.

On the satellite at the moment there is a little bit of high cloud. There’s a pre frontal trough that’s moving across the south east corner of the country thanks to a succession of fronts that are all caught down in the roaring forties. They are well and truly in high gear with a number of low pressure systems in there and some really good polar storms that are spiraling off the south pole.

It’s also going to push north some very cold temperatures and it is going to come though during Mother’s Day.

When this system comes through it will be icy cold, it will probably be the coldest polar outbreak we’ve had so far. We’ve had 4, this is number 5, and it’s definitely the strongest. It will produce some snow across the ski resorts with the season now looming.

But if you are thinking about an outdoor lunch for Mother’s Day I’d definitely take some warm clothes, it’s a bit of an indoor afternoon with that cold polar air ripping through.
